Dr. Shankar Singh is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET) Deemed-tobe-University (Established by Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India), Longowal (Sangrur), India. He passed his Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical) Hons. from the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (India) in 1991, and M.Tech Mechanical (Production) from the Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar (India) in the year 2000. He received his Ph.D. degree in Production Engineering from University of Delhi, Delhi, India in 2007. He has about 30 years of teaching and research experience. His research interests include non-conventional manufacturing processes; advanced machining processes, hybrid machining processes: production and characterisation, machining; joining of composites materials; and automotive engineering. Prof. Singh has also served as Visiting Professor at Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) -SET (School of Technology) of Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. His research achievements have been recognised by prize awards, peer reviewed publications and invited presentations. He has three Indian patents in automotive engineering to his credit. Prof. Singh has held several academic leadership positions in the institutions he has worked, in a career spanning close to three decades. Under his supervision, 8 Ph.D theses have been awarded, and 02 Ph.D. thesis are on-going. He also has more than 31 Master’s thesis to his credit. Presently, Prof. Singh is heading Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department at SLIET, Longowal.

Accomplishments

THREE PATENTS GRANTED :

1. One patent on ‘Automobile Shock Absorber’ (Application No. 255923, dt. 20/08/2013)) –Accepted and Certificate of Registration of Design issued from the Office of Controller of Patents & Designs, Kolkata , on 25-02-2014.

2. One patent on ‘Shock Absorber for Vehicles’ (Patent Application No. 255922, dt. 20/08/2013) –Accepted and Certificate of Registration of Design patent issued from the Office of Controller of Patents & Designs, Kolkata , on 06-05-2014.

3. One full utility patent on ‘Regenerative Electromagnetic Shock Absorber’ (Patent Application No. 4077/MUM/2015) granted for the term of 20 years from the 28th day of October 2015 in accordance with the provisions of the Patents Act, 1970.

Status: Patent No: 516990 granted and recorded in the Register of Patents on 28/02/2024 by the Patent Office, India.

4. Awarded ‘Certificate of Merits’ for the research and development work (for grant of two Indian patents) at SLIET Annual Convocation 2016 on 13th Feb`2016, by AICTE Chairman Dr. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe.
5. Awarded DHRONACHARYA AWARD (BEST FACULTY ADIVISOR) at 6th season of SAE-NIS EFFICYCLE 2015, held at LPU, Jalandhar (15th-18th Oct 2015). Dr Singh has been incessantly participating and representing SLIET at SAE-NIS Efficycle as Mentor of the team ‘GREEN RANGERS’ since 2014.
6. Dr Shankar Singh, Professor (Mechanical) & Faculty Advisor team ‘Junkyard Warriors’ was awarded DHRONACHARYA AWARD at 8th edition of the Mahindra Baja SAEINDIA 2015 held at Pithampur, near Indore on 22nd February, 2015. Dr Singh has been incessantly participating and representing SLIET at Baja SAE India as Mentor of the team ‘JUNKYARD WARRIORS’, since 2009.

The academic identities reflecting my personal scholarly objectives are continuous learner; disciplinary expert; skilled researcher; evidence-based teacher; guardian of the research work process; and liaison officer. I have been flexible to adapt the new techniques of teaching that already have been adopted and will be adopted in the field of technical education for Nation development. Apart from classroom teaching I have never hesitated to use teaching aids and software’s to facilitate teaching and learning, through personalized knowledge.
