  • I am working as a SE in the DNA and Rules Portal project.
  • Project DNA is a custom ETL tool developed by our team, where the data may be flat files or data from other databases, using Python, AWS MWAA, IAM, Secrets Manager, EKS cluster, S3, STEP functions, and Aurora RDS for Postgres, CloudWatch.
  • The Project Rules Portal is a web application where the team can configure their data transformation rules for loading data from the source database to the target database.
  • There are more than 50 applications that use the DNA project for loading their data from the business, processing it for downstream processing, or creating MSTR dashboards for analysis.
  • My responsibilities include onboarding new applications into the project with ease and defined requirements by the business, improving existing functionalities, building efficient pipelines to meet timely SLAs, and maintaining and reporting the infrastructure for the running applications.
  • We use MWAA Airflow to execute the project pipelines by creating DAGs for processing data, which are maintained using Terraform.
  • Automated the process to trigger the specific DAGs whenever a specific file lands in the AWS S3 bucket by configuring the mapping between the file name and DAG, reducing the manual efforts to validate the file's arrival and trigger the DAG.
  • Captured the DAG run metadata details in a database. This data will help the team identify long-running queries and analyze the runtime of each file code, enabling performance optimization, and more efficient troubleshooting.
  • Captured the failure incident details in a database. This data will be helpful for analyzing the incidents created each month, identifying their root causes, and implementing permanent solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborated with the business team to collect owner details, SLAs, and the impact of missed SLAs. This information will help the production support team prioritize failures and understand their impact, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Captured the DAG run forecast. This data will help identify the best time to carry out maintenance activities, schedule the jobs, and understand the trend of the job pipelines.
  • Created an inventory to store the file arrival times from the MFT team. This inventory checks the file format and moves the files to the corresponding prefix in the S3 buckets, ensuring proper organization and processing of incoming files.
  • Enhanced the tool to support reading data from Oracle and SQL Server. where the tool was limited to reading data only from the Vertica database.
  • Automated and improved the CI/CD process for deployments by validating the scheduled change request from ServiceNow.
