Significant contributions

  • Fabrication & erection of large sized dam spillway radial gates involving about 6000MT of steel works at Indira Sagar Project (8X125MW) in MP carried out during 2003-2005 at the site itself using innovative means, thus saving about 20% of the cost and delivering the Project within planned schedule.
  • Introduced the innovative idea of providing flap type radial gates in dam spillways for efficient management of floating trash & debris in hydro project reservoirs, thus enhancing the generation by about 10% in the monsoon months.
  • Introduced an innovative arrangement in existing hydro power projects for release of environmental flows on continuous basis from the dam spillways pursuant to Court orders, which have been subsequently adopted by various other dam owners/ power utilities.
  • Successfully negotiated owner driven CAR/ EAR insurance policies for Teesta-VI Project (4X125MW) in Sikkim, which was a mid-term stressed asset; total premium INR 14.5 billion.

  • Programme Title: Strategic Brand Management for NHPC (Dec. 2015) - IIM Bangalore
  • Programme on Winning Habits of Effective People for NHPC (Mar. 2018) - IIM Ahmedabad

Professional research innovative measures

  • Pursuant to Court orders for release of e-flow from existing dams & barrages, an innovative, simple and cost-effective solution for release of e-flow from the spillway gates by providing steel blocks under the gate was devised in 2020 and implemented in a time bound manner. This solution was successfully implemented at various power stations of NHPC and subsequently accepted by other hydropower utilities also.
  • Hydropower stations in the Himalayan region regularly face operational problems due to high quantum of floating trash particularly during rainy seasons. This trash gets accumulated in front of Intake structure, clogging the trash rack panels, causing reduced power generation due to head loss and also damages to the generating units. In dams with crest type gates such as in 690MW Salal hydroelectric project of NHPC, an innovative flap type radial gate was introduced in place of existing spillway radial gate with retrofitting and retaining major supporting structures of the gates. The flap type opening over the main gate proved to be more efficient in flushing the incoming floating trash & debris without the need of opening/ raising the main gate.
