Bi-Directional CFRP Crack proportion analysis using CZM and XFEM

  • Crack propagation studies is an important parameter to be considered especially in the field of composites because of the limitations in traditional approaches like LEFM, new numerical techniques like XFEM and CZM are used to study both inter and intra-laminar crack initiation and propagation.
  • Multi-Angular Composite laminates were Analysed using mode-1 loading condition
  • Abaqus Software was used simulate these composite Laminate

Structural analysis for composite bypass duct

  • This project is related to analysing a Bypass duct for various load cases. This project was originally given to CSIR-NAL by GTRE-DRDO the main objective is to create a replica of the existing Titanium duct in the form of composites.
  • Performed detailed structural analysis using classical hand calculations and FEA for a bypass duct under high-temperature and buckling conditions.
  • The main challenge associated with this project is the operational use of high temperature which very few resins can withstand. Since this model had to be a replica of the existing Titanium model, we had very few liberties related to altering dimensions.
  • Optimized composite layups with a bi-directional lamina were chosen based on operational temperature while adhering to load, stress, and thermal specifications. Ply thickness and adjustments were made according to the specifications.

Design and Analysis of a Gravity Compensation System

  • Design and analysis of a Gravity Compensation structure( Gravity compensation system) for an 18m unfurlable antenna. The Software used for this project is NX-11, Nastran, and Patran.
  • The major challenges in designing the model are the compact size, motion of linear guide rails, restricted overall deflection, and truss fixtures' design to ensure support at required locations.
  • After numerous analyses and Iterations, the stress and deflection were within the region of safety and a weight optimization of 15% was archived.

Design and Analysis in Star Sensor Bracket

  • Designed a star sensor bracket to withstand inertial and structural loads during launch.
  • Modal and Stress analysis had to performed to make sure the inertial loads are mitigated
  • Ensured structural integrity through FEA and material optimization.
