Work History

Associate Editor (News)

Business Standard
05.2018 - 11.2023
  • Anchoring afternoon news meeting to prioritise stories for different sections of the newspaper, including economy, companies, stock markets and international. The meeting is a discussion with reporters, vertical heads, news desk team members and of course the Editor, where a shortlist is decided upon from the several reporter and newswire stories.
  • Monitoring breaking news throughout the day for incidents, events, and topics of interest to quickly assign coverage to reporters.
  • Working with graphic artists, ad division team members and other specialists to bring out an edition living up to the standards of the esteemed journalists - Mr Nainan and Mr A K Bhattacharya.

News Editor

Times Of India
09.2015 - 04.2018
  • Accountable for all news content that went to print.
  • Reported to the Editor about news articles, picture selection, delegation of stories to reporters.
  • Conceptualised, pitched, assigned and monitored stories from new agencies. The one particular story I would bring to notice was an allegation of rape by a girl student against an auto rickshaw driver. In this case, the police was adamant that nothing had happened and that the girl was cooking up the story. The reporter had requested to not play up the story, but I spoke to the Editor and the reporter in question on the phone (it was a late-night incident and deadline was nearing). After much deliberation, we took the story as lead on Page 1. My contention was that the benefit of the doubt should be given the girl student. Now, to be fair to the police we carried a huge inset box highlighting their side of the story. The next day it was a huge news in all local channels and newspapers of Rajasthan. At the end, it came to light that the girl had indeed cooked up the story. Our reporter thanked me as the policemen literally thanked him for equally highlighting their side of the story, something which other media houses did not do.
  • Planned for coverage of large events by assigning reporters and photographers, of course in consultation with the Editor.
