Major projects
Investigation Of Mechanical Properties of Macro Sized Open Cell Aluminium Foam. (01/2021 - 12/2021)
- The study conducted investigates the mechanical performances of open-cell Aluminium foams. The samples were created using Gravity die casting using the Aluminum LM06 material. Silica sand was used as space holders to achieve pores of 5mm 7mm and 9mm. In order to assess the performances, uniaxial compression test was performed on foams with specific dimensions and minimum 7 pores altogether in the 3 directions, using UTM (universal testing machine). The Brinell Hardness test was performed to know resistance to scratch. Desired outcomes were improved weight reduction, improved yield strength with varying parameters such as different levels of porosity. Later these foams were analyzed mathematically by creating a 3-dimensional model using Ansys and recorded the impact as well as compression loading behavior of the foam. The properties of these foam materials help them to get set to various applications in industries, consisting of fuel cells, energy-absorbing systems and even in Heat-Sink applications.
