• Hypothermia during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) affects how the body handles carbon dioxide (CO2). When a patient's body temperature drops, it slows down their metabolism. This, in turn, reduces the production of CO2.
• As a result, the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (Pco2) in the blood tends to decrease during hypothermia. However, managing Pco2 levels during CPB is important because it influences blood pH and overall oxygen delivery to tissues. Careful monitoring and adjustments are made to ensure stable CO2 levels, avoiding complications related to either too much or too little CO2 in the bloodstream.
