Development Tester

I got the opportunity to transition to the Development team as Quality Analyst after performing well in my previous roles.

1. As an Automation Engineer:

  • Improved the existing test framework (TDM) by creating a test data generator that creates test data for all the collections in our Test MongoDB using a single JSON file before running our Junit tests in the build pipeline.
  • Currently, I'm working on using this test data generator to also create load for Performance testing (work in progress).
  • Implemented Junit-5 features to reduce our build pipeline time (test phase) by 4 min approx (out of 16min).
  • Created a test framework from scratch to run the Selenium Regression test suite for our product by implementing the Page Object Model with Page Factory.

2. As an Agile Tester: I try bringing flexibility to my role, so when needed:

  • I wear Developers Hat to either fix bugs in the code or complete the feature work.
  • Bring everyone on the same page.
  • I read/review code (Whitebox) and try to find areas of improvement.
  • I try to automate as much as possible to reduce manual efforts.
  • Explore the System deeply and try finding risks or areas of improvement. (Like automated Index checking & repair during deployment or improvement in build pipeline etc.).
  • Assist everyone around me in every way possible.
  • Ask questions to help everyone think differently about our development practices. (like discussing the cost of developers time in fixing hardcoded tests or how/why Automation should be part of our Planning discussions or importance of Atomic tests etc.).

Sr. Product Engineer

1. As Shift Coordinator:

  • Responsible for training young hearts and monitoring their performance.
  • Assist new members in improving their product knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ensure motivation and performance levels are maintained.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional development teams to assist in designing and implementing new functionalities in Support tools.
  • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the team, distributing the workload evenly among shift members.
  • Work hard to create a sense of shared vision and keep everyone on the same page.

2. As an Individual Contributor:

  • Provide technical support (L3) to resolve extremely complex issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Assist TechOps/SD teams during maintenance and upgrades to ensure system and data availability 24x7.
  • Monitor system/servers and assist other technical teams in post deployment production issues to get applications out to customers faster.
  • Troubleshooting on remote machines for service level and network communication related issues.
  • Develop new tools and strategies in order to perform various audits to identify hidden errors and configuration issues.
  • Regular analysis, creation and tracking of various automated custom reports via Salesforce dashboards.

Enterprise Project Manager (Additional Role)

As an Enterprise Project Manager, I was responsible for single-handedly managing data capture project for an Enterprise level premium Hotel chain that operates more than 100 properties and resorts worldwide.

1. Primary Objective:

  • Was able to achieve the primary objective i.e.
  • To collect PMS data for respective sites across the globe.
  • Managed changes to the project scope and ensured that the stakeholders are kept apprised of project progress.

2. Challenges Experienced:

  • IT Infrastructure Upgrade: The client was undergoing estate-level IT infra upgrades across all their sites. I used this opportunity to bring additional revenue (more than 15K USD) by performing re- installations of IDeaS services.
  • PMS Upgrades: Many sites upgraded their PMS version which didn't support data extraction by specific Room info. I coordinated with the client's Project Manager & their IT team to schedule installations of hotfixes which resolved the issue.
  • Blank Room info in PMS Data: We observed that multiple sites deleted their old unused Rooms info from their PMS resulting in unusable past data. Based on when the room info was deleted by respective sites, I decided to change the capture date and for very few sites I changed them to operate/build on limited data without compromising the quality of our services.
  • Service Upgrade: At the end of the project, a newly developed IDeaS service was needed to replace the old ones and this would have delayed our project significantly by months. I took the responsibility of getting these services upgraded and completed the work within one-month single-handedly without delaying the whole project.

3. Additional Milestones:

  • Since this was an old client and I was able to learn their business practices and IT infrastructure with deep understanding, it allowed us to install our Recommendation delivery service in advance. This saved us at least hundreds of hours of Support, Project Manager, and Client time needed at later stages.
