My undergraduate project was an insightful experience, as it allowed me to learn the techniques of molecular cloning. I cloned the CBM 32 domain of a gene which encodes for beta-galactosidase, an enzyme capable of breaking down complex carbohydrates, revealing its remarkable versatility in carbohydrate binding. I incorporated that gene by ligating it inside pET-28a (+) vector and transforming the vector in E.coli Top 10 system. The diversity within the CBM family 32 suggested a broader role for these modules in various carbohydrate-processing enzymes across different organisms. Through this project, I not only honed my technical skills in molecular biology but also developed appreciation for the complexity and adaptability of biological systems.
