- Company Overview: The World Bank Assisted Uttar Pradesh Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project
- The Project has been prepared by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, through its Department of Tourism, to strive for positive development outcomes in the activities and investments it supports
- Ensured the provision of Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) document and all related documents for the Project
- Ensured the World Bank standards and safeguards procedures
- Supervise the work and provided advisory and technical support to the environmental Expert/staff hired by the U P Tourism Department in the Project Implementation Units at site levels
- Coordinated with the Project implementing agencies at state and local levels, and any expert consultants, provided advice on the environmental aspects considered during design and implementation phases of various sub-Projects to be financed under the Project
- Reviewed the Environmental Assessment Reports (EAR) and other related documents with regard to their compliance with the ESMF, various environmental issues and the adequacy of management measures and provide necessary guidance to the consultants in improving the reports prior to forwarding to the World Bank for necessary clearance and approval
- Coordinated with the Project implementing agencies and provided necessary support in securing regulatory clearances such as Environment, Forest, or consents from UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) and other agencies
- Carried out monthly visits to sub-Projects implementation sites to monitor as well as to provide onsite guidance to the Project implementing agencies and the contractors on the implementation of respective Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and the ESMF
- Participated in progress review meetings of the SPCU and provided advice on environmental aspects of the respective sub-Projects during implementation
- Coordinated with the Project Management Consultants, Quality Auditors and consultants/ agencies of the Project (both at SPCU and at Project implementing agencies) and ensure that the environmental aspects related to the task of respective agencies are performed in compliance with the ESMF
- Maintained a data base in a standard form, on the status of various environmental activities of the Project (clearances, compliances, EA reports, progress reports, etc.) and updated the same on a regular basis
- Prepared and submitted monthly progress reports to the GoUP and quarterly progress reports to the World Bank, on all the aspects related to environmental management of the Project
- Function as a nodal-point contact at the SPCU and for other external agencies, including the World Bank, and provided all support on environmental matters for the successful implementation of the Project
- Followed up with the Project implementing agencies and other agencies in addressing various environmental safeguard actions agreed during the World Bank missions from time to time, and provide timely update to the SPCU, other key stakeholders and the World Bank
