  • This was a full-time consultant post in Charnwood Locality in Leicestershire. This was a new post, so I was involved in every aspect of service development. I have had the opportunity to work with a very experienced community team. The catchment area size was within Royal College recommendations; hence, I dedicated sessions to teaching, research, and effective and useful supervision of junior medical staff. This was a very appropriate opportunity for me to apply all the skills I acquired in training and has led to further consolidation of my skills as a Psychiatrist.
  • The central tenet of our team's practice was to approach every patient holistically and humanistically. Emphasis was placed on understanding a person's presentation using various psychological theories, particularly psychodynamic/psychoanalytic theories. This way of working generally leads to the development of very strong therapeutic relationships with patients and, consequently, facilitates the delivery of a robust risk management approach.

  • I worked as the only visiting consultant psychiatrist at the Welford Road Prison in Leicester from October 2009 to September 2010. I provided two programmed activities per week while visiting this prison. I was responsible for the Mental Health of all the prisoners whilst they are in placement there.
  • I regularly undertook Mental Health Act Assessments and recommended Section 48's etc. I have an in-depth knowledge of the prisoners' mental health issues due to regular supervision and clinical assessment as a part of the Prison's Mental Health In-reach Team.
  • I have regularly undertaken medico-legal work since taking up the consultant post. I have experience in both civil and criminal cases, including attending Court, seeing Clients in Prison, etc. I am approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as having Specialist Experience in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders.
