Trainee
During my time as a trainee at Westin Turtle Bay Resort and Spa, Mauritius, I gained valuable hands-on experience in the hospitality industry. I actively contributed to the food and beverage service department. I also learned how the food service department coordinates with other departments as well. These are the sub-departments I worked in and the things i learned there:-
1) Room Service
- Delivered orders accurately to guest rooms according to established procedures.
- Checked for accuracy of delivered orders against customer tickets.
- Ensured all necessary condiments, utensils, linens and other supplies were provided with each order.
- Maintained current knowledge of hotel amenities, services, room types, rates and special packages offered by the property.
- Performed daily opening and closing side-work duties such as restocking condiments, folding napkins and polishing silverware.
2) Restaurants
- Delivered food to tables, ensured correct food was served to each customer, and checked back with customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Maintained knowledge of current menu items, garnishes, ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Assisted other servers with table maintenance such as refilling water glasses or clearing dishes when needed.
- Replenished beverages and condiments throughout shift for guests' convenience.
- Ensured dining room cleanliness by wiping down tables between seating's.
- Consistently provided friendly and attentive service that made guests feel welcome and appreciated.
- Greeted customers promptly and courteously as they arrived at the restaurant.
