The Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine, located 600 km south of Ulaanbaatar in Khanbogd soum, Umnugovi Province, Mongolia, is jointly owned by the Mongolian Government (34%) and Turquoise Hill Resources (66%), with Rio Tinto managing the project. Since August 2016, Thiess and Khishing Arvin have been working on the box cut and decline project as part of its expansion. This includes building a box cut for safe underground access and 16.6 km of tunnels for conveyor systems, along with 35,000 cubic meters of excavations for transfer and drive stations.
