Research Experience

University of Glasgow | Oct 2015 to Aug 2017

1. Successfully over-expressed the mature gene sequence for recombinant human MsrB3A protein into recombinant E. coli cells to generate sufficient protein for further structural and functional studies.

2. Recombinant protein was successfully extracted using French Press and purified via column chromatography on AKTA purification systems.

3. Structural analysis and studies of the purified protein were conducted using CD spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and crystallography.

4. Non-functional MsrB3A protein was made using sequence analysis, sequence alignment and site-directed mutagenesis. The gene sequence was then efficiently cloned and further over-expression in recombinant E. coli cells.

5. Functional studies were conducted using a protein-based Gel Shift Assay and Reverse-Phased Chromatographic assay to prove protein functionality and stereospecificity.

Heritage Institute of Technology | Jul 2013 to Jun 2014

1. Collected and processed matured Tinospora cordifolia plant stems to obtain crude enzyme extract and further concentrated using lyophilization.

2. Estimated concentration of amylase enzyme in the enzyme extract by specific activity.

3. Prepared standard estimation curves for reducing sugar and lactic acid concentrations.

4. Sub-cultured Lactobacillus spp. consortium for further fermentation studies.

5. Conducted lactic acid fermentation studies using different concentrations of glucose, and jaggery as energy sources at different time intervals.

6. Conducted the simultaneous saccharification and lactic acid fermentation using corn starch as energy source.
