Work History

Deputy Director-Immersion and Learning Exchange (ILE)

Bandhan Konnagar
10.2023 - Current
  • Company Overview: Deputy Director-Immersion and Learning Exchange (ILE) at Bandhan Konnagar, assisted and funded by BRAC International.
  • The program provided technical assistance to the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS) to develop immersion sites within Cluster-Level Federations (CLFs) as Centers of Excellence.
  • Focused on the creation and dissemination of knowledge management products to document intervention strategies, learning outcomes, and best practices.
  • The broader objective was to enable countries across the Global South to effectively plan, collaborate, and scale the Ultra-Poor Graduation Approach, with the goal of enhancing the socio-economic status of ultra-poor households.
  • As the PMU Lead for the Immersion and Learning Exchange (ILE) Program, I led a diverse team of 30–35 professionals to ensure successful project execution in collaboration with BRLPS and BRAC.
  • The program impacted over 10,000 ultra-poor households across 62 CLFs, focusing on sustainable livelihoods, behavior change, financial literacy, and social development.
  • I led the creation of knowledge products and protocols and system-strengthening strategies to institutionalize quality standards in immersion sites and knowledge exchange platforms.
  • High-level documentation, including strategy notes, learning notes, Impact stories, program booklets, and donor reporting, was produced to capture innovations and lessons learned.
  • Led international ILE visits for high-level delegations and stakeholders from Africa and Asia, such as Indonesia, South Africa, the Philippines, Ethiopia, and Rwanda, and facilitated customized ILE visits for SRLMs in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
  • Strategic partnerships with organizations like the World Bank, Aga Khan Foundation, PRADAN, Access Development Services, FinMark Trust, and First Consult, etc helped scale the Graduation approach across the Global South.
  • I also oversaw team development, financial planning, stakeholder coordination, gender-sensitization workshops, and core components such as MIS reviews, coaching, capacity building, peer learning, and access to entitlements.

Doctoral (Ph.D) Fellow

Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA)
Anand, Gujarat
06.2015 - 05.2025
  • My research investigates the intricate dynamics of household decision-making around sanitation, with a particular emphasis on the role of social norms, reference networks, and behavior change communication.
  • Conducted across Bihar, Gujarat, and Telangana, the study engaged over 1,600 households to analyze the distinction between toilet adoption (buying behavior) and consistent usage (consumption behavior).
  • By integrating an interdisciplinary framework rooted in Social Marketing, the research investigates how social networks and prevailing norms shape sanitation-related decisions and practices.
  • Using a mixed-methods approach across exploratory, intensive, and final phases, it examined the economic, social, and behavioral drivers influencing sanitation outcomes, including direct and indirect costs of toilet construction and use.
  • The study offers actionable insights for designing gender-responsive, user-friendly policies and communication strategies under the broader umbrella of Social Behavior Change Communication.
  • Importantly, it highlights the transformative impact of gender-inclusive approaches and community participation in strengthening local governance, facilitating policy adoption, and driving behavior change.

Research Associate

Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA)

  • The research was implemented across 48 villages representing both high- and low-performing regions to capture a diverse range of sanitation behaviors.
  • I oversaw the full research lifecycle, including design, data collection, and analysis, while also training and supervising field enumerators to ensure data quality and minimize response bias.
  • The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to generate evidence-based insights and policy recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
  • The findings were presented at multiple national and international forums and contributed meaningfully to academic and policy discussions.
  • The research culminated in the co-authorship of a book titled 'Toilet Adoption in Rural India: Social Norms and Behavioural Changes', which examines the critical role of social influence and behavioral dynamics in shaping sanitation practices in rural India.
