We are trying to understand the α-synuclein dysregulation at post-transcriptional (miRNA’s) and post-translational levels (Phosphorylation), leading to its overexpression and transition to toxic oligomeric form in Parkinson’s disease (PD). A multidisciplinary approach is employed to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanism underlying the pathogenic degeneration of specific neuronal populations in the brain using various bioinformatics, in-vitro, and in-vivo models. In addition, the pharmacological screening of novel molecules isolated from plant sources or synthetic congeners, and targeted drug delivery systems for their improved neuroprotective and neuronal regeneration properties carried out using cellular and animal models.
