Responsibilities:

EMC VNX:

  • Zoning the VNX SP ports to the Cisco UCS blades and registering the host HBAs in VNX CLARiiON.
  • Creating thin pools (Select SAS, Standard, Premium, and Select+) according to the client requirements and the criticality of the application's data.
  • Adding the disks to the thin pools according to the tiers in 'Select, Select+, Standard, etc.'
  • Carving thick data LUNs from the thin pools and creating boot LUNs from thin pools as pre-allocated capacity or will be created from the RAID groups.
  • Configuring EFD disks for FAST Cache in pairs, and enabling the FAST Cache in the thin pools.
  • Enabling the 'Auto-Tiering and Disk Relocation Schedules' for thin pools configured with mixed disks.
  • Provisioning the LUNs to the cluster hosts by adding the LUNs and connecting the host to the storage groups. Configuring LUN HLU IDs should be the same for all the hosts in the cluster.
  • Migrating the data between the LUNs and monitoring the status.
  • Analyzing the performance of VNX storage by starting to enable periodic archiving of NAR files.
  • Retrieving the NAR files, merging the NAR files, and opening the merged NAR files to check the LUN IOPS, disk latency, SP utilization, total R/W rates, etc. And also doing performance tuning if the performance metrics in the storage report graph are above their threshold level.
  • Doing pre-checks before the upgrade, upgrading the VNX storage, both block level and file level, and also performing a post-health check of the array after the upgrade.
  • Troubleshooting issues such as disk failure, break-fix issues, zoning, performance tuning, and expanding the LUN if the datastore in VMware reaches its threshold level, etc.
  • Configured SAN copy migrations.
  • Supported on-call on a weekly rotational basis and attended the TAB meeting for the client and SDM approval for weekend change activities.

VNX-NAS:

  • Created a NAS storage pool using the physical thick LUN from the block storage, configured a new filesystem (CIFS or NFS) on the datamovers or VDMs, mounted the FS, created the share path, and exported the FS share path from the NAS DM/VDM head to the standalone servers.
  • Configured the replication for the NAS filesystem between the PROD datamover and the peer datamover, and enabled the replication.
  • Expanded the existing filesystem and the filesystems that are part of replications.

VMAX:

  • Zoning Cisco UCS blades to the VMAX array FA ports, enabling port flags on the initiator group, or it can be set on a per-initiator basis.
  • Adding new hosts in VMAX Unisphere, and creating an alias name for the initiators.
  • Creating pools using the disks 'EFD, FC, and SATA disks' with respect to the VCE standards, like SATA RAID-5 disk for select pool, SATA RAID-6 disk for standard, etc., and setting the MAX subscription value in percentage to each pool.
  • Creating disk groups, adding disks to the disk groups, creating DATA devices, adding DATA devices to thin pools, creating thin devices, and binding thin devices to thin pools.
  • Auto-provisioning by creating initiator groups and adding host initiator members to the initiator groups, adding the initiator group to another initiator group as a child IG.
  • Created a port group, added the VMAX FA ports to the port group, and set ACLX flags to the ports in the port group.
  • Created a storage group and added the thin devices to the storage group by enabling the 'Consistent_LUN' option.
  • Created a masking view and added the initiator group (IG), port group (PG), and storage group (SG) to make the visibility of the thin LUNs to blade hosts.
  • All the above tasks were done using both EMC Unisphere, EMC SMC, and EMC SYMCLI.
  • Expanded the thin LUNs by creating another TDev of the same size with the same disk configurations and setting the attribute as 'BCV+TDev,' and then adding the members to it.
  • Migrating the LUNs between the disk tiers and disk groups.
  • Worked on various troubleshooting issues and performance analysis using STP logs and a performance analyzer.

EMC RecoverPoint Appliance:

  • Implemented and configured the new RPA clusters between the PROD and DR sites.
  • Configured zoning between the RPA and VNX/VMAX storage arrays.
  • Configured the RPA clusters using the DM (Deployment Manager tools) by configuring DNS, DNS Domain, Gateways, subnet mask, RPA IP, and RPA Virtual IP on both sites.
  • Configured the data LUNs, journal LUNs, repository volumes, GK devices from storage to the RPA clusters, and created a consistency group (CG) by creating replication sets, adding PROD and DR volumes in replication sets, configuring journal LUNs, and adding the LUNs to the storage splitters, etc.
  • The failover test has been done after post-implementation.
  • Changing the RPA MgmtMode policy to 'SRM' for VM datastores.
  • Worked on the SRM (Site Recovery Management) tool and configured protection groups, recovery plans, etc.
  • Done with load balancing on RPA clusters if there is a continuous high load seen on CGs.
  • Involved in RPA upgrade activities.

CISCO UCS:

  • Good in Cisco UCS architecture.
  • Created service profiles and associated the service profiles with the UCS chassis servers.
  • Created and modified a new boot policy, BIOS policy, and adapter policy, adding vHBAs and vNICs for the chassis blade.
  • Moved the service profiles from one chassis blade to another chassis blade, and cloned the service profiles.
  • Installed the ESXi 5.0 ISO image and configured the management IPs, DNS servers, network configuration VLANs, gateway, and set the ESXi root password on the blade host, etc.
  • Involved in a few troubleshooting issues by retrieving the UCSM logs and UCSM chassis logs.

VMware:

  • Created clusters in the VMware vCenter and added the Cisco UCS blade hosts to the cluster.
  • Configured DNS and routing configurations for the blade hosts; also configured the NTP server for time synchronization.
  • Configured the network parameters for blade hosts in VCenter, such as 'Mgmt network, Prod, and Vmotion.'
  • Creating VMs and adding the storage data LUNs as 'Datastores' to the VMs.
  • Performing storage vMotion and VM vMotion.
  • Migrating the VMs between the datastores and chassis blade hosts in the cluster to efficiently make use of datastore space.
  • Expanding the existing datastores and extending the disks at the OS level using 'diskpart' or 'extpart'.
  • Adding VCPU, memory, and virtual disk for a VM host. Assigning the new RDM disk to VMs.
  • Worked on VMturbo reports by providing capacity reports and performance reports to the SDM and client on a monthly basis.

VCloud Director:

  • Worked on VCD Vcloud Director in a few scenarios, such as adding new disks to the existing VMs in VCD, increasing RAM and memory by powering off the VMs, and expanding the VOrg total capacity space in VCD, etc.

VPLEX:

  • Connectivity and zoning configuration between two VPLEX and VNX storage arrays.
  • Discovered new arrays on VPLEX once all are physically connected.

  • Recovering from SRDF alerts by checking the RDF Director status. Recovering the RDF groups when moved to a suspended state by moving the group to ACP mode and back to Async.
  • Running the Open Replicator session from EMC to NetApp box by using the 'symrcopy' command every month and monitoring the session until it gets completed.
