A Section Second-in-Command (2IC)—typically a Lance Niak acts as the deputy to the Section Commander, responsible for managing the Delta fireteam, controlling ammunition and equipment, and leading the team during tactical maneuvers. They ensure fire superiority, provide administrative support, and assume command if the Section Commander is absent.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Tactical Leadership: Leads the delta fireteam (typically 3 riflemen and 2 gunners) and acts as the second-in-command for section-level attacks and maneuvers.
• Firepower Management: Oversees the section's weapons, specifically directing support weapons (light support weapons) to provide fire support.
• Logistics & Admin: Responsible for the logistical needs of the section, including ammunition, food, and equipment, such as submitting ammunition control reports (ACE reports).
• Operational Security: Ensures all-round defense and security when the section is stationary.
• Instruction & Mentorship: Trains, coaches, and mentors junior soldiers on field craft, weapons handling, and drill, often performing instructing duties.
• Reporting: Reports to the Section Commander and provides feedback on unit welfare and operational readiness.
