Preparation of Biofuel/diesel fuel blends and modification of Common rail direct injection (CRDI) Compression ignition (CI) engine.

  • Preparing different proportions of fuel blends of 1-Heptanol/diesel using splash blending method,identifying the fuel properties and modification of single fuel injection into split fuel injection (pilot and main) of CRDI CI engine.

Experimental study of Investigation of combustion, performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine

  • Experimentation of performance, combustion, and emission parameters while changing engine loads, the volume of blends, fuel injection timing, and fuel injection pressure to obtain the optimal blend.
  • The IC engine LABVIEW software identifies the engine parameters such as brake thermal efficiency, specific fuel consumption, exhaust gas temperature, cylinder peak pressure, heat release rate, ignition delay, combustion duration, and mass fraction burned.

Validation of experimental results with Multi-Criteria decision-making (MCDM) and Python approaches

  • To identify the optimal blend, validate experimental results with MCDM models such as CRiteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (CRITIC)-Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Python program.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and modelling of simulations

  • CFD Simulation of a CRDI CI Engine with 1-Heptanol/Diesel Blends for Various Injection Timings Performed two-dimensional and three-dimensional computational simulations using ANSYS Fluent.
  • The computational domain and models were designed using ANSYS Workbench SpaceClaim, and post-processing was done using ANSYS Fluent to capture the results more accurately.
  • Developed a numerical model and validated the model with experimental and computational data. As an outcome, the need for further experiments and numerical simulations decreased, thus saving the project lead time and resources.
