Summary

I am a qualified bioinformatician with 5 years of post-PhD experience in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. I have a background in microbiology and my expertise lies in solving infectious disease-related problems using in-silico approaches. Presently, I am working on pathogen-host interactions at the molecular level, using network modelling approaches. In my future research endeavours, I would like to enhance my expertise on network modelling and implement these approaches to model infectious diseases. In addition to my expertise in research, I am also passionate about teaching.

  • December 2011 - December 2017, Research scholar, Bose Institute, Kolkata, India, During PhD, the main aim of my study has been to explore the various underlying evolutionary forces that lead to the fixation and maintenance of gene overlapping in prokaryotic and viral genomes. My study reveals that overlapping genes are an integral part of thermophilic adaptation in prokaryotes. In addition, overlapping genes act as a significant genomic correlate of prokaryotic growth rate, with fast growing prokaryotes harboring an elevated frequency of gene overlapping. One of my recent publication is focused to explore the role of gene overlapping in retroviral pathogenesis mediating extensive host-virus interaction. In a nutshell, my study has elucidated some of the key implications of harboring overlapping genes in viral and prokaryotic genomes.
