  • Experience gained during the following wards:- Post-operative ward :- As the post-operative patient enter the ward following care should be taken – . Patient should be properly positioned in bed well according to the operated site. . Check the vitals. . Operative site should be check such as bleeding, wood rupture etc. . Check on the patient operative file and follow further order as advised. . If any complications immediately inform the concerned doctor. . Strictly keeping care about the patient privacy and not allowing anyone in the ward until instructed. . During the recovery period utmost care is being taken about diet, ambulant condition, complication of wound if any other medical complication etc. . During the whole period, proper antiseptic dressing of the operative site as instructed by the doctor. Pre-operative cases – . During working in the general ward I use to attend pre- operative cases. Consent form to be signed by the relatives. . Inform the concerned doctor and instruction from him to be taken care of. . Check the vitals. . Mentally preparing the patient for the operation. . Proper antiseptic cleaning in and around the operative site. Emergency :- . Multiple cases are to be handled at the same time so we need to be very tact full and active in the ward. . Assisting doctors handling the various cases and cater to their respective needs. . Vitals must be checked regularly. ICU :- (1) Burns . We can determine the type of burns while taking history. . Assessment of the burn by the `rule of nine`. . Wear gloves and mask to remove contaminating cloths and irrigate with cold running water for 20 minute. . Do not burst blisters. . Give medication as advised by the doctor. Use Vaseline impregnated non-adherent dressing. . Increase movements by proper method during recovery period. (2) Poisoning case:- . Use gloves and masks to remove contaminated clothing’s and source of poisoning. . Assess the need of basic life support. . If patient unconscious then turn into recovery position. . Note down any information about the exposure. . Time of the incident. . Duration of exposure / amount ingested. . Route of exposure. . Whether intentional or accidental. . Take a general history from any attendant. . Assessment of the conscious patient. . Follow the attending doctor instructions.
