Collateral Ops, OTC Treasury, and SBL Margins:

  • Funding and optimizing the collateral by analyzing and switching between various assets, like bonds, equities, asset-backed securities, mortgage-backed securities, and others.
  • As part of treasury management, you will be responsible for cash management, ensuring the smooth functioning of the accounts payable team, and verifying fund cash levels, as well as reconciling cash balances.
  • Reviewing and approving manual payments, addressing any issues related to payment queries, and providing payment backups to custodian banks
  • Working on the exceptions queue to resolve breaks hitting management reports, and executing timely SLA and SOP reviews.
  • Project automation on the removal of non-value-adding activities and running metrics of monthly savings from optimization.
  • Managing securities borrowing, lending (SBL), and client collateral sourcing, agreeing on margin exposure, clearing corporate action breaks, and also dispute resolution for bilateral and triparty clients. Verifying trade information in the collateral system and issuing/responding to client margin calls.
  • Work with various trading desks and middle office teams to address any trade disputes, and ensure proper cash and security movements.
  • Partake in a large amount of client contact daily regarding margin calls, dispute resolution, and portfolio reconciliations.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and performance of the team. Ensure adequate process backups are created for all critical positions. Analyze complex client queries, engaging appropriate support areas, collating responses, and fully owning the item through to resolution.
  • Training and mentoring of new associates, capacity planning, process transitions, and quality assurance.

Transition/Offshoring Projects.

The process work of one full-time employee was offshored to four different internal activities. Mitigation of risk was the main objective of the activities, which was successful and imparted training in offshore.

Collateral Ops, Portfolio Reconciliations, and Dispute Management:

  • Sending out margin requirements to the clients when facing risk against the client on a regular basis. Checking the accuracy of the client statements, MTM values, etc. Before sending out any reports to the clients,
  • Arranging margin transfer, including repricing of trades. Timely monitoring of the number of breaks, both for cash and stock, evaluates the status and reason for breaking, and gets it fixed on a timely basis.
  • Reporting breaks to senior management in terms of missing MTM, and large swings in the MTM as compared to the previous day.
  • Resolving disputes by reconciling the trade details. Performing reconciliation in Tri Resolve between the client’s trade portfolio (containing OTC derivative trades) and SG, matching trades, investigating the MTM (mark-to-market) differences, unmatched trades, and resolving disputes.
  • Onboarding new clients with various internal teams, such as legal, credit officer, sales, and trading desk, to perform reconciliation and hold weekly login calls with the clients.
  • Working with the trading desks on valuations, breaks, and discounting methodologies, or other issues based on clients' requirements.
  • Coordinating with the middle office, front office, and legal team to resolve disputes such as entity mis bookings.

OTC Collateral and Static Management:

  • Ensuring that all margin calls issued are within the firm's approved thresholds.
  • Working on requesting the eligible collateral as per the CSA, and investigating any bond’s eligibility with Bloomberg and CSA.
  • Working on fixing the concentration limits on collateral that has been delivered, and advising counterparties on initiating the substitution and replacing the ineligible collateral with eligible collateral.
  • Investigating re-hypothecation, non-hypothecation, and other breaks daily, and working with the custodians to fix the breaks.
  • Managed the successful transformation and implementation of the un-cleared derivatives margining process to offshore, as part of recent changes in the regulations in the OTC derivative market.
  • I have been part of the client service layer for the London region and have been responsible for handling and reducing the number of escalations in the process to ensure improved quality of client service.
  • Finding out risk-prone areas in the process and initiating or taking appropriate measures to reduce the risk to the utmost possible extent.
